Robinhood CEO Pushes for US Stock Tokenization
Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev argues that tokenized stocks are the key to updating the financial system while warning that the US is falling behind.
Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev recently stated that tokenization is the best way to modernize the American financial system. He highlighted a major issue, noting that US investors currently lack access to tokenized stocks. Tenev believes this absence is a significant gap that keeps the country from participating in a global shift toward blockchain based finance.
Progress remains stalled due to a lack of clear guidance from the Securities and Exchange Commission. While the market for tokenized stocks is growing rapidly elsewhere, regulators in the United States have delayed an innovation exemption that would define how these assets trade on blockchain rails. This leaves firms without a clear path forward for offering these products to domestic customers.
Market data shows that tokenized stocks are expanding quickly despite the lack of US involvement. Total value held in these assets has risen to 2.4 billion dollars, while the number of holders has doubled. Robinhood currently sits in sixth place among platforms in this sector, trailing leaders like Ondo and xStocks.
Tenev warned that if Washington does not move quickly to establish rules, the US risks losing its competitive edge to other jurisdictions. The industry is now waiting to see if policymakers will provide a framework for these assets or if the global market will continue to develop without American participation.
