Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev is defending his firm over tokenized stock products following a public clash with AMC Entertainment boss Adam Aron. Aron recently criticized Robinhood on social media, accusing the brokerage of issuing unregistered tokens tied to AMC shares and breaking securities laws. He called the move contemptible and threatened to bring in outside lawyers and the SEC.

The public feud started when Robinhood rolled out tokenized stock options for AMC and over one hundred ninety other companies without direct approval from those businesses. Aron argued that these products create exposure to AMC stock without corporate involvement, bypassing the usual relationship between a firm and its shareholders. AMC stock even jumped fifteen percent in premarket trading when the argument first hit the news.

Tenev fired back during a television interview, stating that a public company cannot control every financial product created once its shares start trading. He explained that these tokens act as debt securities backed one to one by the underlying shares, giving holders economic exposure without voting rights. Robinhood legal chief Dan Gallagher also dismissed the threats from AMC.

This argument opens a massive question for regulators regarding whether brokerages can wrap public stocks into tokens without company consent. Traders should watch for any official moves from the SEC, as this dispute could set a major legal precedent for tokenized assets moving forward.
