LIVENasdaq listed ProCap Financial has adopted an unusual strategy to boost value for its investors. By selling roughly 50 Bitcoin to repurchase over 2 percent of its own common stock, the company managed to increase the amount of Bitcoin represented by each share by about 1.1 percent.
The firm is capitalizing on a significant gap between its market price and the underlying value of its assets. With its shares trading at a discount of nearly 40 percent compared to net asset value, the company determined that buying back its own stock is more efficient than simply holding its entire Bitcoin treasury.
This approach flips the standard industry playbook. While many companies issue new stock to buy more Bitcoin when shares trade at a premium, ProCap is doing the opposite. By retiring shares at a deep discount, the company ensures that the remaining shareholders effectively own a larger slice of the remaining Bitcoin pile.
CEO Anthony Pompliano confirmed the company will keep using this strategy as long as the discount persists. ProCap has now retired approximately 10 percent of its outstanding shares since the buyback program began, though future moves will depend on the company's available cash and market liquidity.
