Polymarket World Cup Betting: 130,000 Users Finished in the Red
While over 194,000 wallets participated in Polymarket's World Cup betting, data shows that most users lost money while a few whales walked away with millions.
The World Cup betting frenzy on Polymarket brought in massive traffic but resulted in lopsided outcomes for participants. Roughly 130,000 unique addresses, or about 67 percent of all bettors, finished the tournament with losses. Most of these losses were small, with over 114,000 users losing less than 100 dollars each.
On the flip side, the winnings were highly concentrated among a small group of top traders. While nearly 58,000 people saw small gains, only 54 accounts walked away with more than 100,000 dollars each. One top performer, known as asparagus2012, reportedly used seven different accounts to rake in over 7 million dollars in total profit.
Following the tournament, prediction market activity has naturally slowed down as the sports calendar enters a quiet period. Analysts expect volume to stay low through August before picking up again when the NFL season begins in September. The industry is now watching to see if these platforms can keep their new users engaged during this transition.
