Berkeley Township police recently arrested 24 year old Gurdutt Singh after he arrived at a senior citizen's home to collect cash from an ongoing scam. The trouble started when the victim saw a fake Microsoft pop up on her computer. After calling the number provided, the scammers posed as bank and tech representatives, eventually convincing the victim to send a $50,000 cashier check by claiming her accounts were at risk.

The criminals were not satisfied with that initial payment and soon demanded an additional $30,000. They told the woman a courier would visit her house to collect the cash for safekeeping. The victim wisely contacted the police, who monitored her home while she kept lines of communication open with the perpetrators.

On Friday, August 14th, officers apprehended Singh after he arrived at the location in a gray Toyota RAV4. He now faces charges for conspiracy to commit theft by deception and money laundering. He remains in the Ocean County Jail while the case proceeds through the court system.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by tech support scams. Criminals often use fake alerts to manipulate victims into handing over their life savings. Law enforcement continues to warn the public to be cautious of anyone asking for money to be sent or handed over for protection.
