Mississippi Woman Arrested for $18,206 Check Fraud Scheme

Shelia Williams, a 70 year old from Golden, Mississippi, was taken into custody following an investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama. Authorities allege that Williams stole five checks from an elderly victim's vehicle, forged the required signatures, and used the funds for personal expenses.

The investigation began in late June when the victim noticed over $18,206 missing from their bank account. Williams eventually confessed to the scheme during an interview with investigators. Fortunately, the victim’s bank has since reimbursed the full amount taken.

Williams currently faces charges for forgery, theft, and the financial exploitation of an elderly person. Her bond has been set at $20,000 as the legal process continues. This case serves as a reminder for everyone to keep checkbooks in secure locations and monitor bank statements for any unusual activity.
