MicroStrategy, now known simply as Strategy, has updated the way it reports its Bitcoin metrics to give investors a clearer view of its balance sheet. While the firm holds a staggering 843,775 Bitcoin worth about $58 billion on paper, a significant portion of that digital asset stash is already promised to lenders and preferred investors.

After subtracting about $22 billion owed to creditors, the company calculates a net reserve of roughly $36 billion in Bitcoin that truly belongs to common shareholders. Servicing this debt and preferred stock costs the firm around $1.8 billion each year in interest and dividends. To manage these expenses, the company maintains a dedicated cash reserve.

The updated reports also highlight the risk of the company's financial setup. An amplification metric of 1.53x shows that common shareholders enjoy bigger gains when Bitcoin rises, but they also take harder hits during market downturns. This leverage explains why MSTR stock has dropped about 77% over the past year, while Bitcoin itself fell by 45%.

Michael Saylor, the firm's founder and executive chairman, stated that Bitcoin capital markets require a new financial language. The company's main value gauge, known as mNAV, now sits at 1.00x, which means the old share price premium has disappeared. Strategy will continue its aggressive Bitcoin buying strategy, but shareholders can now see the exact breakdown of who gets paid first if the market turns downward.
