MicroStrategy Keeps Cash After Raising $263 Million

MicroStrategy recently sold over 2.7 million shares of its stock to raise $263.5 million. Instead of using this cash to buy more Bitcoin, the company added the funds to its US dollar reserves. This brings its cash pile to $3.225 billion as of July 19. The company has now gone two consecutive weeks without adding to its massive Bitcoin stash, which currently sits at 843,775 coins.

This move marks a shift for a company known for aggressive Bitcoin accumulation. The strategy change follows a new capital framework adopted last month, which requires keeping enough cash to cover at least 12 months of dividend payments. The reserve has doubled since late June to ensure the company can handle dividend obligations and debt interest.

Investors are watching closely as the stock price fluctuates. With the company shares recently trading at just over the value of its net assets, the massive premium investors once paid to gain exposure to Bitcoin has cooled significantly. While the company says it remains a net buyer of Bitcoin, its current focus on liquidity reflects a change in its immediate financial management.
