Massive Network of Fake Online Shops Steals Personal Data

A new investigation has uncovered a massive cybercrime operation called DoppelCart. This network consists of nearly 119,000 fake online shops that impersonate over 44,000 legitimate retail brands. These sites are sophisticated, using copied product images, descriptions, and branding to trick shoppers into believing they are visiting an official store.

The shops target victims by offering fake discounts of 65 percent. Once a customer reaches the checkout page, the site captures credit card details, addresses, and even bank confirmation codes. This information is sent to the attackers in real time through the site backend.

Experts note that 96 percent of these sites share the same technical infrastructure and resolve to a small group of central servers. While this specific report focuses on retail theft, it serves as a stark reminder for crypto users to remain vigilant when shopping online and to protect their personal financial data from increasingly professionalized phishing operations.

Security teams advise shoppers to check domain names carefully and avoid sites that feature aggressive discounts or look identical to established retail platforms.
