Consensys is making a major change by splitting its operations into two independent companies. The move will separate the famous MetaMask wallet from the protocol and institutional tools that help run the Ethereum network. This entire process is expected to be finished by the end of 2026.

The current company will take on the MetaMask name, with Joe Lubin staying on as chairman and CEO. This side of the business will look after consumer tools, including the wallet and a new account feature for trading and spending. With more than 100 million downloads, the team wants to turn the wallet into a complete platform for personal finance.

The second branch will keep the Consensys name and focus on institutional infrastructure. This team will be led by Mike Kriak and David Cunningham. They will work with banks and asset managers on tokenization projects, which is a market that could reach over eight trillion dollars in the next few years.

There is no official word yet on if either company plans to go public. For now, the split helps each group focus on its specific mission. One side will cater to everyday crypto users while the other builds the foundation for big financial institutions.
