Jane Street has officially confirmed a nearly 1 billion dollar position in Bitcoin. A regulatory filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission shows that the quantitative trading firm holds roughly 990 million dollars in Bitcoin ETFs. Rather than holding the actual digital currency, the firm is investing through major vehicles like the BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust, the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund, and the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust.

The majority of this capital is parked in the BlackRock fund, which accounts for 828 million dollars of the total investment. These ETFs have become the primary way for traditional financial institutions to gain exposure to Bitcoin without needing to manage digital wallets or private keys.

This disclosure follows reports that Jane Street recently suffered significant losses in other sectors, including AI investments and Asian equity markets. Despite those setbacks, the firm remains highly profitable with 40 billion dollars in net trading revenue so far this year. Its move into crypto ETFs signals that even major Wall Street players are continuing to view Bitcoin as a core part of a modern portfolio.

The trend of institutional adoption is growing as pension funds and sovereign wealth funds also move to add Bitcoin exposure to their balance sheets. Market observers will be watching to see if other major trading firms follow suit as these regulated products become more liquid and easier to trade.
