LIVEHut 8 shares saw a significant jump on Monday after the company announced a second 15 year lease agreement for its AI data center in Texas. The deal involves the Beacon Point campus and carries a value of $9.8 billion. If renewal options are fully exercised, the total contract value for the site could eventually reach as high as $50.2 billion.
The deal expands the site's capacity to 704 megawatts. CEO Asher Genoot noted that the tenant's decision to double its footprint at the campus serves as clear validation for the company's focus on power heavy infrastructure. Following the news, Hut 8 stock traded as high as $106 before closing the session with a gain of more than 10 percent.
This shift reflects a broader trend among major Bitcoin miners who are pivoting toward artificial intelligence. As mining profitability becomes more difficult due to fluctuating coin prices and rising operational costs, many firms are rebranding as digital infrastructure providers. Companies like Terawulf, IREN, and Cipher Mining have also made similar moves by securing high performance computing contracts with major tech giants.
Investors are now watching to see how successfully these mining firms handle the technical transition to AI infrastructure. While both crypto mining and AI data centers share a need for massive energy supplies, the operational demands of AI technology require specialized expertise that exceeds traditional mining setups.
