HSBC Launches First On Chain Structured Product in Hong Kong
Banking giant HSBC has issued its first digitally native, USD denominated notes directly on the blockchain in Hong Kong.
Banking giant HSBC has taken a major step into the blockchain space. The bank successfully issued its first digitally native structured product in Hong Kong. The transaction involved a private placement of US dollar denominated notes.
Unlike previous efforts where financial assets were digitized after they were created, these new notes were minted directly on a blockchain from the start. HSBC teamed up with digital markets platform Marketnode to pull off the issuance, marking a shift toward true on chain institutional finance.
This move shows that major global banks are moving past simple blockchain pilots and are now launching actual financial products. Watch for more traditional financial institutions to follow HSBC's lead as Hong Kong continues to position itself as a friendly hub for digital asset innovation.
