LIVEFreedom Factory has officially released the PQ1, a new hardware wallet built to withstand potential attacks from quantum computers. The device aims to secure assets on Ethereum and all other EVM compatible chains. According to company CEO Markus Haas, the team chose hash based post quantum algorithms instead of Lattice to secure the system.
In a unique move for hardware security, the project relies on a fully open source design. Haas stated that users can audit the code themselves and even build the entire hardware wallet from scratch if they choose to do so. Interestingly, the initial design leaves Bitcoin out, focusing entirely on the EVM ecosystem for now.
Crypto holders are increasingly looking ahead to future security threats as quantum computing technology advances. Devices like the PQ1 highlight a growing shift toward post quantum cryptography in digital assets. Traders and developers will likely keep a close eye on how this open hardware approach fares in the broader market.
