Florida Sends Millions of Free Eggs Following Price Fixing Case

Florida is delivering 5.67 million Grade A eggs to food banks across all 67 counties this week. The project follows a massive settlement regarding price fixing that involved companies like Cal Maine Foods. The state received 472,500 dozen eggs along with a payment to cover enforcement costs.

These eggs come after a joint investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and 17 different states. The probe looked into how certain producers manipulated Urner Barry price quotes, which unfairly increased the cost of eggs for families at the grocery store.

Officials stated that the shipping and handling costs are fully covered by the producers. This ensures that no burden falls on taxpayers or the local food pantries receiving the supply. Beyond the egg shipment, the settlement forces these companies to follow strict antitrust compliance rules for the next five years.
