FBI Targets Malware Scheme Hiding in Steam Games

The FBI is currently looking for victims of a cyber attack that used eight specific games to infect devices and steal digital assets. Authorities claim the scheme targeted users on social platforms like Discord and X, tricking them into downloading games that contained malicious software. Once installed, the malware reportedly gained access to crypto wallets and sensitive login information. Officials say the campaign led to the theft of at least $220,000 from around 80 victims.

The games identified in the investigation include titles such as BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse, DashFPS, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenova. Investigators arrested 21 year old Zyaire Dontaevious Zamarion Wilkins in connection with the case. The charges allege he helped fund and market the infected software. The trail eventually went cold after agents tracked stolen funds that were converted into Uber Eats gift cards, which were then linked back to the suspect through delivery addresses.

This case serves as a warning that even official app stores can be used to distribute harmful software. The malware allegedly bypassed initial security checks, highlighting the importance of keeping your wallet keys and sensitive data away from your gaming computer. Security experts recommend being extra careful with new downloads and always double checking any transaction prompts on your wallet, as scammers often try to trick users into manually approving malicious transfers.
