A former FBI Supervisory Special Agent is facing serious legal trouble after allegedly stealing nearly 1 million dollars in cryptocurrency. Court records show that Patrick Steven Yaroch transferred the funds from wallets seized from an unnamed adversarial nation into his own private accounts. He reportedly told investigators that he felt frustrated by the lack of action taken against these accounts, leading him to take the funds himself.

Evidence filed in a Virginia district court suggests that Yaroch used his official access to retrieve private keys needed to move the assets. The documents claim he even researched moving to Portugal before ultimately confessing his actions to a Department of Justice employee. Most of the stolen funds were held in stablecoins rather than Bitcoin.

The former agent now faces two felony charges. Each count carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The FBI terminated his employment in July, and the investigation remains active as authorities work to address this breach of security.
