Ethereum Sets October Date for Sepolia Upgrade

Ethereum developers have tentatively picked October 6 for the Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia testnet. This step is a vital part of the plan to bring the upgrade to the main network by the end of 2026. However, the timeline is not set in stone because recent testing on private devnets revealed several stability issues.

The most recent test, known as Devnet 9, featured 1,000 validator nodes but failed to finalize properly. Engineers found that the large network size exposed various bugs, including one that could potentially freeze the entire system. Because of these challenges, the team is skipping ahead to prepare for Devnet 11 to resolve these issues before moving forward with public testing.

Additional complications have surfaced, including a specific bug related to gas costs that requires updates across all execution layer clients. Developers are now taking a cautious approach, choosing to hold off on setting dates for other testnets until the current technical hurdles are cleared.

Traders should watch for the success of the upcoming Devnet 11. If this phase proves stable, the project stays on track for its December goal. If not, the team has indicated they will need to reconsider the schedule on a case by case basis.
