This aggressive timeline aims to stay ahead of the potential threat known as Q day, which is the point when future computers might be powerful enough to break current cryptographic security. The Foundation plans to reassess this goal in 2027 to ensure their progress matches current industry trends and expert forecasts.
To hit this goal, the team must maintain a rapid pace of network updates. The plan requires an average of one hard fork every seven months, meaning several updates will need to overlap to keep everything on schedule. This project is a major part of the broader Ethereum roadmap, focusing on critical changes like Frame Transactions, which will make it easier to add new security features in the future without needing a massive overhaul every time.
During a recent evaluation of potential updates, the team also clarified that some proposals, such as changes to issuance and token burning, were not accepted. They noted that these policy decisions affect all holders and require a different, more broad based community process. Developers are expected to discuss these technical grades and the future of the network in an upcoming question and answer session on Reddit this September.
