Effective Altruism Group Funds Huge $2K a Week Anti AI Campaign

Effective altruism, the controversial philosophy closely tied to fallen FTX founder Sam Bankman Fried, is making a comeback with a new target. A group called Irreplaceable is paying student organizers 2,000 dollars a week to lead a major anti AI campaign on college campuses.

The campaign plans to coordinate walkouts at over 100 colleges this October. The goal is to demand strict government regulations and even pause artificial intelligence development, putting it under public control.

Some critics are calling the effort an astroturfing campaign because the group's actual financial backers remain hidden. However, reports show the group has strong ties to the Center for AI Safety, a prominent effective altruism organization.

Effective altruism has a long history in the crypto space, mostly known through its connection to Bankman Fried and other FTX executives. While those figures face legal consequences, the movement's focus is clearly shifting toward controlling the future of AI.
