Echo Base Eyes Involuntary Bankruptcy for BitMart
A firm representing BitMart creditors is pushing for bankruptcy proceedings after users reported being unable to withdraw their assets.
coinbeat.newsDistressed asset firm Echo Base has formed an official committee of BitMart claimholders to address the growing frustration over locked customer funds. The move follows reports from users who say they are unable to withdraw their digital assets despite the exchange initiating a wind down process. Echo Base has retained legal counsel and is currently evaluating whether to force BitMart into an involuntary bankruptcy proceeding.
This action comes after BitMart allegedly ignored a proposal from Echo Base submitted in early August. The firm offered up to 10 million dollars to help fund a pre negotiated bankruptcy process to protect creditor interests. According to the committee, BitMart has remained silent despite multiple contact attempts and formal demands regarding the status of frozen accounts.
At the heart of the dispute is the BitMart user agreement which states that customer assets remain the property of the users and should not be subject to claims by the company creditors. While BitMart founder Sheldon Xia has denied any misappropriation of funds, users remain skeptical as the exchange promises a future roadmap for creditor distributions.
Investors should keep a close eye on the September 9 deadline when BitMart is scheduled to deliver a restructuring roadmap. Whether the exchange chooses to cooperate or faces a court ordered insolvency will determine the next steps for those waiting to recover their assets.
