Dow and S and P 500 Hit Record Highs on Strong AI Earnings
Wall Street reached new records as upbeat earnings from Caterpillar and Palantir eased concerns over artificial intelligence spending.
Strong corporate earnings reports pushed major stock indexes to record closes on Tuesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 907 points, and the S and P 500 rose 1.79 percent, driven by massive demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure. Caterpillar raised its annual forecast because of AI data center construction, while Palantir shares jumped nearly thirty percent following a blowout earnings report.
Optimism quickly spread across the wider market. Semiconductor stocks rallied for the fourth straight session, and the panEuropean STOXX 600 reached a record close. Lower oil prices also helped boost sentiment, easing inflation fears and shifting expectations for future interest rate cuts.
Not everyone on Wall Street shares the enthusiasm. Some analysts warn that a massive rally driven by just a handful of earnings reports might ignore underlying risks. Traders will watch the rest of the earnings season closely to see if the high valuations are truly justified.
