LIVEAllegations have surfaced in a public petition claiming that foreign funds, specifically crypto, bankrolled the recent Cockroach Janta Party protests in India. The movement, which emerged from satirical roots to protest government accountability and exam leaks, saw significant activity in July. However, a detailed audit of market data and on chain activity reveals no signs of a widespread crypto funding wave during the protests.
While public interest in the protests skyrocketed, crypto interest moved in the opposite direction. Google search data shows that protest related queries surged by 1,350 percent during the peak of the movement, while searches for buying cryptocurrency and digital wallets fell by 18 percent. Additionally, the trading volume for USDT against the Indian rupee dropped significantly, and the premium paid for stablecoins narrowed, suggesting that investors were not rushing to secure funds for the cause.
Researchers also monitored on chain activity and social media channels for signs of organized financial support. No official protest wallets were identified, and reviews of movement linked Telegram channels yielded no donation links or payment addresses. Although some unofficial Solana tokens appeared on exchanges, they remain disconnected from the movement organizers.
While this investigation focused on public data, the findings suggest the claims of crypto funded unrest lack a foundation in real world activity. The High Court is currently reviewing the petition, but for now, the evidence points to a grassroots political movement rather than a crypto backed operation.
