DaVita Settles Massive Data Breach Case for $15 Million

A medical firm in Colorado has reached a preliminary agreement to pay up to 15 million dollars to resolve a class action lawsuit. This legal action follows a ransomware attack that impacted roughly 2.3 million patients who use the company for dialysis services.

While the firm denies any wrongdoing, the settlement fund is designed to compensate those affected. Out of the total 15 million dollar pool, approximately 10 million dollars will go directly to class members after legal fees and administrative costs are paid. Claimants with proof of specific losses can apply for up to 2,500 dollars, while others may receive an estimated 50 dollar payment.

Beyond direct cash payments, the settlement provides three years of credit monitoring to all affected individuals. This development serves as a reminder of how cybersecurity failures can lead to significant financial liabilities.
