CZ Admits He Underestimated the Massive Stablecoin Market
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao says he missed the rise of stablecoins, which have grown into a 311 billion dollar sector.
Changpeng Zhao recently shared his regrets regarding the stablecoin market. During a discussion on the Talking Tokens podcast, the former Binance CEO admitted he did not foresee the massive growth these assets would experience. He previously viewed them as temporary tools meant to bridge transactions between exchanges, failing to realize their long term potential.
Stablecoins are now a pillar of the digital asset industry with a total market capitalization exceeding 311 billion dollars. Tether alone accounts for nearly 60 percent of this value, making it the third largest cryptocurrency behind Bitcoin and Ethereum. Circle, another major issuer, recently made waves with a successful public listing on the New York Stock Exchange.
Zhao noted that his intense focus on running Binance prevented him from observing shifts in the broader market. Stepping away from his executive role gave him the space to reexamine industry trends he once overlooked. He now believes that early skepticism toward new technology can lead to major missed opportunities.
This sector has moved from a niche workaround to a cornerstone of finance with new national regulations already in place. Investors should watch how leaders like Zhao adapt their views as the market continues to integrate with traditional financial systems.
