A legal battle is heating up between Mintvest Capital and the mining firm Coinmint. According to an amended complaint, Coinmint CEO Ashton Soniat is accused of misappropriating 448 BTC by lying to investors about when mining production actually began. The suit claims Soniat told investors that operations started later than they really did, allowing him to pocket the Bitcoin produced during those hidden gaps.

The allegations go beyond simple theft. The complaint points to claims of securities fraud and racketeering. It suggests that Soniat intentionally extended testing periods for mining rigs to maximize the amount of Bitcoin he could siphon into his personal accounts. Mintvest also argues that Coinmint failed to provide accurate financial reports, which they believe was a deliberate move to hide self dealing and avoid oversight.

Mintvest is seeking massive damages, including $104 million in allegedly withheld profits and $47.1 million to cover the value of the missing Bitcoin. The firm also claims that NYDIG, which acquired Coinmint, failed to honor the terms of the merger agreement by excluding Mintvest from its rightful ownership stake. We will be watching this case closely as it develops in the courts.
