Coinbase posted a net loss of 359.5 million dollars on second quarter revenue of 1.22 billion dollars, which missed Wall Street estimates of 1.29 billion dollars. Following the earnings release, COIN shares fell 5.44% in after hours trading to 154.68 dollars. This wiped out a daytime gain that had left the stock at 163.58 dollars.

Even though the top line shrank, the exchange managed to grow its trading market share to 10.3%, up from 9.1% in the prior quarter. Prediction markets also performed well, with revenue more than doubling quarter over quarter. Meanwhile, subscription and services revenue grew to make up nearly half of all net revenue, helped by rising USDC holdings and strong activity on the Base network.

Chief executive Brian Armstrong noted that Coinbase is expanding beyond simple Bitcoin spot trading and positioning itself as a broad financial infrastructure provider. Management also lowered expense guidance for the year as the company manages costs during a broader market slowdown. Traders will now watch to see if higher market share can translate into stronger revenue when overall crypto trading volumes finally bounce back.
