Coinbase Files to Launch 24/7 Stock Perpetuals in the US
Coinbase is pushing to bring round the clock stock perpetual futures to US traders through new regulatory filings.
coinbeat.newsCoinbase has taken a major step toward expanding its derivatives offerings by filing two notices with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The plans aim to bring single stock perpetual futures directly to US traders. These filings, submitted on September 1, involve two of the company's regulated arms, including Coinbase Derivatives registering as a designated contract market.
While the SEC paperwork marks the start of the process, the rollout depends heavily on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Coinbase policy chief Faryar Shirzad explained that the CFTC must still grant final approval before any trading can actually begin. If approved, this move would allow users to trade stock linked perpetual contracts around the clock.
This push highlights the growing overlap between traditional finance and crypto exchanges. Offering 24/7 access to stock derivatives could attract heavy volume from retail and institutional traders alike. Market participants should watch for updates from the CFTC in the coming weeks to see if regulators are willing to greenlight round the clock stock trading on crypto platforms.
