LIVECrypto exchange BitMart has shocked traders by announcing an orderly wind down of its trading platform. The sudden news sent its native BMX token crashing by 46 percent over a 24 hour period. BMX traded near $0.11 on Sunday, sitting roughly 82 percent below its all time high from June 2024.
BitMart pointed to tough market conditions and a strategic review as reasons for the closure. The exchange has already stopped new registrations and deposits. Futures accounts have moved to reduce only mode, and all spot trading will halt completely on August 26, 2026. The platform plans to shut down all remaining services by January 31, 2027.
This exit comes just days after a similar closure announcement from BitMEX, marking a tough week for older trading venues. BitMart is urging all users to close their open positions and submit withdrawal requests before the upcoming August deadlines to avoid losing access to their funds.
Traders should watch for continued volatility in exchange tokens and ensure all assets are safely moved to self custody wallets or alternative platforms. The timeline leaves users with a tight one month window to clear their accounts before trading stops for good.
