LIVEBits of Gold, a leading regulated cryptocurrency broker in Israel, is currently investigating a significant data breach. The incident potentially exposed personal information belonging to up to 250,000 customers. While user funds and digital assets remain completely secure, the security issue forced Israeli retail and energy giant Paz to temporarily stop Bitcoin purchases on its Yellow convenience store application.
The compromised data includes user names, national identity numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, IP addresses, bank account details, and public crypto wallet addresses. Fortunately, account passwords, ID document images, private keys, and credit card CVV codes were not accessed during the breach. Analysts attribute the incident to an active exploit affecting analytics software used by the firm.
Even though direct asset theft on the platform is unlikely, security experts warn that exposed personal data often leads to targeted phishing campaigns and social engineering schemes. Users should remain extremely cautious about unsolicited communications, fake transfer requests, and anyone asking for credentials or private keys. Bits of Gold has already notified regulators and brought in an incident response team to secure its systems.
