BitMEX is winding down operations and giving users until September to clear their accounts.

BitMEX Exchange Closing Its Doors: What Traders Need To Know
coinbeat.news

The crypto exchange BitMEX announced it will shut down on September 23 at 04:00 UTC. The platform has already stopped accepting new user registrations. Traders have until August 26 to adjust their risk limits, after which they will only be able to reduce their existing positions. Any contracts still open by the September deadline will be force closed by the exchange.

Users who fail to withdraw their funds before the final September cutoff will still be able to log in to request their assets later. However, the exchange plans to charge a monthly fee of at least 50 dollars, or 1 percent annually, on any balances left in verified accounts. The company also warned that withdrawal delays are possible due to blockchain constraints and additional review processes.

While BitMEX is closing, the impact on overall market liquidity is expected to be minimal. BitMEX currently accounts for a tiny fraction of total derivatives volume compared to giants like Binance. Most traders will likely shift their activity to other major centralized exchanges or onchain platforms like Hyperliquid, though there is no single destination for these displaced funds.

If you have active positions on the platform, you should plan your moves now. Check your account balances and prepare to shift your trading strategies to new venues well before the August 26 deadline for risk limit changes.
