This allowed the hackers to drain over 4,100 Bitcoin from the victim in August 2024.

They spent the next month renting expensive mansions, buying over 30 luxury vehicles, and hiring private security teams. One member of the group, 22 year old Malone Lam, even managed to drop $569,000 in a single night at a Los Angeles nightclub.

This flashy lifestyle eventually caught the attention of federal investigators. The FBI moved in to make arrests in September 2024, leading to charges against multiple individuals. Several members have already pleaded guilty to their roles in the crime. Prosecutors noted that while the group lived a lifestyle many dream of, the entire operation was built on a foundation of fraud.
