The proposal includes strict safeguards, such as a twenty year holding period and requirements for annual audits by independent third parties to verify private keys and holdings. Supporters argue that holding Bitcoin provides exposure to an asset that could appreciate as national debt grows, while critics point to Bitcoin's price volatility as a risk that conflicts with traditional standards for liquid and secure government reserves.
