Bitcoin long term holders dumped roughly 260,000 BTC during August, marking a period of intense selling that exceeded levels seen at the 2025 cycle peak. This supply moved from veteran holders to newer market participants. Data indicates this selling wave has slowed down significantly as we head into September.

This shift in ownership initially pushed short term holders into profit, but that momentum is already showing signs of weakness. As the price of Bitcoin drifted lower, short term holder profit levels fell back to roughly $168 billion, while losses began to creep up again. The market is now watching the $76,500 support level closely to see if these new buyers will hold their positions.

Technically, Bitcoin is hovering near critical levels. The price recently stalled at $82,613 and slipped back below the $77,876 mark. If the asset can hold above $76,500 and reclaim the $81,000 zone, the recent shift toward profitability could remain stable. A drop below $73,000, however, would put the majority of August buyers back into a loss.

Despite current volatility, some analysts are looking at long term cyclical charts for hope. Bitcoin remains in a historical position that often aligns with previous cycle bottoms. While the validity of these four year cycles is debated, many traders are keeping a close eye on price action around the $76,500 line to determine the next major move.
