Bitcoin July Gains Rise but Volume Remains Thin

Bitcoin is on track to end July with its first monthly gain since April, showing a 9.3 percent increase in price. Despite this positive move, the underlying data shows a major disconnect. Spot trading volumes have plummeted to levels not seen in years, signaling that many participants are currently sitting on the sidelines.

Institutional interest has also cooled significantly throughout the month. After seeing positive inflows early in July, spot Bitcoin ETFs saw those numbers shrink each week before eventually turning into net outflows by the end of the month. This trend of indifference is mirrored in exchange data, where neither heavy buying nor large selling pressure is driving the market.

Analysts note that both exchange deposits and withdrawals have slowed to some of the quietest levels in three years. This lack of movement suggests that the current market is defined by disinterest rather than active accumulation or distribution. Without a fresh wave of demand to support the current price, the momentum may be difficult to maintain.

Looking ahead, traders are watching for a potential shift in macro conditions that could spark new interest. Seasonality also remains a concern, as Bitcoin has historically struggled during the month of August over the past four years. Whether Bitcoin can break this trend will likely depend on whether real volume returns to the exchanges.
