Bitcoin Hits Capitulation Levels as Traders Hedge for More Pain
Bitcoin is flashing classic bottoming signals, yet traders are spending hundreds of millions on insurance against a deeper drop.

LIVEBitcoin is showing major signs of market exhaustion. Eight out of 12 key indicators used to track capitulation are now flashing red. These metrics, which measure extreme market stress and heavy selling pressure, have historically appeared during the late stages of past bear markets. While this suggests the current downturn might be nearing its final phase, history warns that these signals are not perfect tools for timing a price recovery.
Despite the calm look of the charts, the options market tells a different story. Traders have spent $552 million on downside protection over the past month. This surge in spending on put options pushed the put to call premium ratio to 2.30, a level higher than 99 percent of readings seen since 2021. Investors are clearly willing to pay a premium to protect their holdings, even as realized volatility remains unusually low.
This behavior creates a strange conflict in the market. While spot trading volume has dropped significantly, institutional inflows into Bitcoin ETFs have remained strong, with over $1 billion added in the last month. Long term holders are also selling off some supply, which adds more downward pressure.
Bitcoin currently sits near $65,000, holding steady despite a difficult global climate that includes high Treasury yields and geopolitical tensions. Market watchers should monitor whether this accumulation phase leads to a sustained break higher or if the heavy hedging by traders proves to be a necessary precaution against further volatility.
