Bitcoin and Crypto Outpace Nasdaq in Major Market Reversal

Bitcoin has officially erased a massive performance deficit against the Nasdaq 100. Just two months ago, the leading cryptocurrency trailed the tech index by 68 percentage points over the previous year. Today, that gap has vanished and flipped into a five point lead. While Bitcoin struggled with a 44 percent loss over the last twelve months, its two percent gain in the last 60 days signals a clear shift in market sentiment.

Ethereum and Solana are showing even stronger recovery patterns. Both assets suffered deeper losses than Bitcoin over the past year, down 56 percent and 58 percent respectively. However, they have rebounded sharply, outperforming the Nasdaq by 15 and 13 percentage points over the same 60 day window. This trend holds across shorter timeframes as well, with crypto assets posting gains while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 see recent declines.

For much of the past year, capital migrated away from digital assets toward high growth alternatives like semiconductor stocks, mega cap IPOs, and zero day options. Analysts note that crypto lost its status as the primary destination for speculative capital as investors chased trends in artificial intelligence. However, as that momentum cools, Bitcoin is finding room to stand on its own.

Investors should watch ETF flows closely to confirm if this shift has real staying power. While recent data shows net inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs, liquidity remains thin. A sustained recovery will likely depend on whether Bitcoin can continue to decouple from the broader equity market rather than relying on a decline in stock prices to look attractive.
