LIVEPopular hardware wallet maker BitBox recently found and fixed multiple severe security issues during internal audits. The Swiss company shared details about the flaws in a blog post, explaining that one issue could have allowed an attacker to trick users into installing malicious firmware. Another memory corruption bug in the Multi edition could have led to unauthorized code execution and potential fund losses. Fortunately, the Bitcoin only edition escaped this issue because its software lacks the affected code.
BitBox confirmed that no user funds were taken and no panic is necessary, but everyone should update right away. Users are encouraged to run the update through the official BitBoxApp by clicking the direct in app prompt rather than searching manually. Unlike recent troubles with other hardware wallets where users had to migrate funds entirely, BitBox users only need to apply the new software patch to stay secure.
This hardware warning arrives while the wider crypto community remains on high alert following a major firmware bug affecting Coldcard devices. That separate incident led to weak seed generation and significant losses totaling over 115 million dollars in bitcoin. Security analysts continue to advise all hardware wallet owners to stay vigilant, check for official updates, and rely strictly on manufacturer prompts.
