A woman from Churchill, Pennsylvania, is facing serious legal trouble after allegedly executing a check fraud scheme. Ngoc Phuongthi Le is accused of writing 24 bad checks from her husband’s personal and business accounts. Investigators claim she deposited the checks into her own account at First Commonwealth Bank and quickly moved the funds before the bank realized the money was not available.

The operation resulted in a loss of over $56,000 for the financial institution. While the total value of the checks reached $82,710, the bank absorbed the majority of the shortfall. Authorities have charged Le with theft, receiving stolen property, access device fraud, and 24 individual counts of issuing bad checks for the incidents that occurred between late December 2025 and early January 2026.

Local officials are using this case as a reminder for everyone to keep a close eye on their financial statements. The Allegheny County District Attorney stressed that reporting suspicious account activity immediately is vital for law enforcement to catch perpetrators. While the bank has not detailed any new security measures, the case highlights the ongoing risk of internal financial fraud.
