Tokenized asset perpetual trading volume slipped to 122 billion dollars in August, marking the first monthly decline for the sector since January 2026. This pullback ends six straight months of steady growth. The drop happened during the same period when the wider crypto market staged its biggest rally of the year, with 83 percent of the top 100 assets closing higher.

During the first half of the year, tokenized stocks, commodities, and indices filled a gap while major crypto prices stayed quiet. Traders chased price action on decentralized exchanges, pushing monthly volume from 23 billion dollars up to a July record of 141 billion dollars. August changed the setup when Bitcoin returned 25 percent and Ethereum gained 32.5 percent, giving traders the directional momentum they wanted without needing real world assets.

Despite the drop in total volume, tokenized public equities still dominate the category, making up 67 percent of specific exchange volume in August. Total activity remains five times higher than it was in January. September will show whether this shift was a temporary rotation or a permanent loss of traders to major coins.
