Amazon Prime Settlement Offers Payouts to Millions of Users
Amazon is paying out billions to resolve claims that it enrolled customers in Prime without their clear consent.
coinbeat.newsAmazon is set to pay a total of 2.5 billion dollars to settle a lawsuit brought by the Federal Trade Commission. The government agency accused the retail giant of tricking millions of customers into Prime subscriptions and making it intentionally difficult for them to cancel. While Amazon denies any wrongdoing, the settlement includes 1.5 billion dollars in customer refunds and a 1 billion dollar penalty.
To qualify for a payout, you must have been a United States Amazon Prime member who signed up or attempted to cancel your subscription between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. Additionally, the settlement requires that you used three or fewer Prime benefits during any 12 month period after you joined. If you meet these criteria, you may be eligible to receive up to 51 dollars.
If you did not receive an automatic payment late last year, you must submit a claim to be considered. The deadline to file your claim is Monday, July 27. Payments are expected to be issued in late 2026, and you can choose to receive your money via check, PayPal, or Venmo.
This legal action highlights the growing pressure on large technology companies regarding user consent and subscription management. While this is not directly related to digital assets, it serves as a reminder for users in all sectors to remain vigilant about their subscription settings and online activity.
