LIVEAave community members are voting on a plan to delegate V4 risk controls to Risk Stewards on Ethereum and Avalanche. The Snapshot vote opened on September 3 and finishes today. If the vote passes, approved operators will be able to make specific changes without waiting for a full governance vote. Aave Labs notes that the code is currently finishing up an audit with Certora.
The proposal sets up four new roles for Risk Stewards, covering both standard risk management and emergency actions. While the emergency permissions will be assigned immediately, they will stay inactive until future software updates add support. This setup lets the system prepare for rapid safety responses without going through a full governance cycle during a crisis.
Importantly, the emergency functions only work in one direction. Stewards will be able to pause, halt, or freeze assets and reserves, but they will not have the power to unfreeze or reactivate them. Routine updates will also have strict cooldown periods and caps on parameter changes. Traders and users should watch the final vote tally and subsequent security council actions to see how Aave handles these new risk management tools.
