22 Year Old Pleads Guilty in Massive $245M Crypto Theft Ring

A 22 year old Singaporean citizen and Miami resident named Malone Lam just pleaded guilty in Washington, D.C., to running a major international cybercrime operation. Lam admitted to participating in a RICO conspiracy that stole and laundered more than $245 million in cryptocurrency. Court documents show the criminal group operated from October 2023 through May 2025.

The organization used online gaming platforms to recruit members across the United States and other countries. The crew relied on social engineering tactics and physical home break ins to gather sensitive information, allowing them to drain victims of their crypto holdings. Lam used various online aliases to organize the operation, pick targets, and assign roles to other members.

The stolen funds financed a lavish lifestyle of high end spending. Prosecutors revealed that the group dropped up to $500,000 on single nightclub outings, rented luxury properties in Los Angeles, Miami, and the Hamptons, and purchased private jets, exotic cars, and expensive watches. Law enforcement eventually caught up to Lam, arresting him at his Miami rental home.

Following his guilty plea, a status hearing has been scheduled for December 8, 2026. This case highlights the ongoing focus of federal agencies on tracking down large scale digital asset theft and holding offenders accountable.
