Jordan Fish Takes Control of the Coinbase Base App

Jesse Pollak, the creator and leader of the Base blockchain, has officially handed the Base consumer app over to Jordan Fish, widely known in the crypto community as Cobie. This transition marks a shift in strategy for Coinbase as it moves away from its recent focus on social media integration and creator content.

Pollak admitted that his earlier bet on social experiences, such as messaging apps and creator coins, did not gain the traction he expected. He noted that while he successfully fostered a community of builders, the social side of the ecosystem failed to gain momentum. As a result, he is now prioritizing financial utility over social features.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Base team plans to focus on trading, payments, and AI agents. Pollak stated that the primary goal is to turn Base into a powerhouse for global finance. He believes that features like stablecoins and prediction markets will be the real drivers for bringing a billion users onchain rather than social applications.
